Geer worked for several years in Washington, D.C. after graduating from the College of William and Mary, building a career in film production, working on feature films, commercials, movies-of –the-week, industrials, and music videos. His experiences in film finally brought him to documentaries, where he found his true home. Over the last twenty years he has worked on numerous documentaries, including several IMAX films (Amazing Journeys, Alaska: Spirit of the Wild, Michael Jordan at the Max, Everest, In Search of the Great Sharks, and Africa: the Serengeti), along with many other award-winning films. His dual love of nature and art has led him to a career as varied as it is extensive, covering all kinds of subjects including great cats, Renaissance artists (National Gallery of Art), DNA, cryonics, wildland fires, and peregrin falcons. An inveterate traveler, he’s been lucky enough to work and explore much of the world (Asia, Alaska, Africa, Europe, Central America) and witness things that are not on a normal tour-guided trip – i.e., going hunting with click-dialect speaking bushmen who “make” dinner with poisoned arrows. In his work Geer strives to not only accurately capture a scene, but also find a magic that dwells within it, creating images that hopefully inspire people to protect their world, to keep alive the animals and places that are rapidly disappearing, and to remember to periodically leave the trail behind and explore the un-explored. |
